Mon. Dec. 12, 2016 - Christmas Cards

Today we're working on addressing Christmas Cards and doing some little gifts for a few neighbors and friends. It seems to always take more time and energy than we'd originally planned so....a nap may be in order for later this afternoon.  :)

Tonight we'll spend with two of Mike's sisters and their husbands for FHE in South Jordan. We love them and are looking forward to seeing them in a few hours.

Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 - Andrew speaks in Sacrament Meeting , Recipes

My son, Andrew, spoke in our Elberta Ward yesterday, as part of his 'after mission' opportunity. He shared a beautiful message about the gift of patience and a few of the lessons we can learn from both Job, and Joseph Smith.

Andrew is gifted in sharing and personalizing the scriptures. Many of us were deeply moved by the powerful witness he gave of the Savior and the meaning that was placed on us developing God-like attributes like 'patience' which bringeth 'hope'.

We held a family luncheon afterwards with Taco Salad and desserts. I made Mike's favorite 'punch' which is Sprite with Crystal Light (raspberry lemonade) and water to dilute. I topped it with a few lemons and it seems to always be a favorite.

We had guests later that evening of some student's of Chris's from her institute class. They all loved her so much and -- her legacy of hope and faith lives on through these wonderful youth.

Taco Salad:
brown a chopped onion
add hamburger and taco seasoning, then black beans and kidney beans and diced tomatoes

For Salad: layer the following:
Tortilla Chips
Hamburger mixture
Cheese
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Sour Cream or Ranch
Salsa

Mike's Favorite Punch:
Sprite
Water
Crystal Light (Raspberry Lemonade)
Mix and add ice.
Top with lemons if desire (looks nice)

Elberta Ward Christmas Party

Wed. Dec. 7th, we held our Ward Christmas Party at the church.  Various rooms had been set-up beautifully with the Creche (nativity) sets of ward members. There were many from all parts of the world and the settings were beautifully lit and with donated table cloths from members as well.
It was a wonderful activity with deep meaning and pause for reflection.

Mike and Heidi bundled up - Christmas 2016

Photos were taken as we entered the church building (they told us to bundle-up warmly), a video was shown, Creche displays were looked upon and enjoyed as we walked from room to room, and refreshments were serve.

After a short time we were all escorted outside, in the cold, to the adjoining church park where we were treated to a beautiful LIVE Nativity from the youth in our ward. This included Mary and Joseph, Shepherds, Wisemen, Angels and on-lookers. Songs were shared and a narration taught us about the first Christmas. It was truly beautiful, meaningful, and touching.

It was also very special to have live animals participate as part of the event. There was a Donkey (to bring Mary in), chickens, sheep and goats. It was a beautiful evening to remember!

Here are some photos from the Creche display as well as Live Nativity!

Have You Ever Been to Elberta, Utah?

Neither had I until I met and married the man of my prayers last year. He had lived here 20 years previously, working with and training horses after many years of building homes and churches.

It's beautiful here in the most southwestern town of Utah Valley. We try to walk every morning and as we do we enjoy the incredibly beautiful and peaceful surroundings including birds chirping in the trees, 'church cows' mooing in the distance, rolling hills on several sides, blue skies, fresh air, crops being watered, and farmers out cutting their hay.

It's a beautiful life and it's a peaceful life.  Our nearest neighbor is about 1/2 mile away so we are able to enjoy tranquility unlike in the city.

I've enjoyed it though I do miss neighbors and friends close by - which is what I've always known in the past. But, I'm not complaining. I get more time for personal study and reflection which has been a needful thing to me after many years of a stressful existence.

So, I invite you to come out to Elberta.  Enjoy the surroundings and scenery of a beautiful world God created for us.
